Entrepreneur Summer School – Zagreb School of Economics and Management

I think the pictures say it all! It was so hot, 35 degrees that we held the class outside on the grass!

I gave a presentation to the students on our work in the EESC on entrepreneurship and from my personal experience. There was a great debate afterwards, with a key focus on the gender perspective in policy making in the EU. The students were very challenging and happy to be included in our consultations.

Federation of Family Employers of France (FEPEM)

With Europe in crisis, particularly on how we can create jobs and opportunities, it was a breath of fresh air to meet Mme Levaux today.
Mme Levaux is President of FEPEM and is promoting the Family as the Employer. Initially when this concept was raised to me I was sceptical, but now I understand the added value to society, the economy and particularly to work life balance.
3.5 million people ( 98% of them women) are employed in France alone to look after children, the elderly or perform domestic services – ALL employed by a family. This adds 1.7 billion euros to the economy!

Thematic evaluation of the European Commission support to respect of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms ( including solidarity with victims of repression)

Human Rights concept is of “shared values” and should not be seen as a European concept as many countries have it enshrined in their constitutions, with mechanisms and respective laws – however this can sometimes be seen as just non-implemented in practice. Therefore there should be a review of practice in civil society of different countries.

Dialogue with students and Interview with Green Party EP on EU-India FTA

The Green Party held a debate in the European Parliament and before the meeting I was asked to participate in their film on the EU-India FTA and its impact on human rights. I addressed the issues of the role of civil society and the EESC recommendations for additional studies to complement the inadequate Sustainable Impact Assessment and the requirement for a civil society monitor mechanism.
